Overview

A growing family in Bellevue was adding an EV and replacing their gas furnace with a heat pump — two big new loads their original 100A service simply couldn't carry. We upsized the home to a 200A service in a single day, giving them clean capacity to electrify without tripping breakers.

The challenge

The existing 100A panel was already near capacity, with double-tapped breakers and no open slots. Adding a Level 2 charger and a heat pump on top would have overloaded the service and created a safety hazard.

What we did

We ran a full load calculation, coordinated the utility disconnect, and replaced the meter base and panel with a 200A service. Every circuit was re-landed on its own breaker, labeled clearly, and grounding and bonding were brought up to current code.

Results

  • Service capacity doubled from 100A to 200A
  • Dedicated circuits added for the EV charger and heat pump
  • Every branch circuit re-landed and clearly labeled
  • Passed jurisdiction inspection on the first visit
